Leadership Tip

How to build a better morning routine

A good morning routine can help you be productive for the rest of the day. Many try to get much of their work done by 09:00, while some prefer getting their meetings out of their way early in the day so they can then hit the ground running. Here are some tips to build a good routine:

  1. Get a good night’s rest and have a consistent time to go to bed every night.
  2. Avoid any caffeine or alcoholic drink on work nights and see how that affects your productivity the next day.
  3. Avoid any email or other work communication channels from at least an hour before bedtime.
  4. Start your mornings by going through your inbox and setting aside 10 minutes for the most important emails.
  5. Start your day with a task that makes you feel good. After that, you can move on to the more stressful tasks.
  6. If you’re going to start the next morning by engaging with an important task, prepare for that at the end of your workday. Have everything you need to hand, namely, files, folders, papers, and any physical objects.
